E20: Stephanie Vavron

This week I’m joined by Stephanie Vavron, who tells us her family’s story about autism. Steph lives in Scotland, is a single mum of two, and her youngest, Max, is autistic.

I first became aware of Steph last year when one of her TikTok videos about the packed lunches she makes for Max went viral. Whereas many autistic kids will only eat what’s often described as beige food, Max is the complete opposite and loves spicy foods and different textures.

Since then I’ve loved getting to know more about Max, which is why I thought you would too.

We have a really honest and open conversation about parenting an autistic child, what autism means for Max, and them all as a family.

We talk about some of the harder moments, such as the regression Max experienced, seeing your child self-injure when having a meltdown, and what Steph does to try and help him in those moments.

Max isn’t due to start school until next year, but we talk about the school system and the stories we hear from our followers for who it is such a fight to access a place.

Steph opens up about co-parenting, and the importance of keeping a good relationship with your ex, something I can relate to very well.

I hope you enjoy our chat as much as I did. There’ll be another podcast episode same time next week.

To find out more about Steph and her family you can follow her on TikTok or Instagram
